Nepo vs Lapo: the birth lottery
One of the most talked-about parts of Lagos Life is the birth lottery. It runs once per account and decides your starting background, and you cannot reroll it.
The three reported starts
| Origin | Money | Home | Perks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nepo Baby | ₦500,000 cash, no debt | Lekki Phase 1 mini-flat, rent paid | Branch Manager day one, Charisma 2, a car, starter items |
| LAPO Baby | ₦60,000 loan | Mushin ₦2,400/week or Yaba ₦6,000/week | Hustle 2, +25% skill growth; Lekki locked |
| UNILAG fresher (LAPO only) | ₦14,000 cash, no loan | UNILAG hall bunk ₦1,200/week | Hustle 2, +25% growth, degree bonus of up to +25% pay |
The LAPO debt
The higher reported figure is a ₦60,000 loan repaid at ₦12,000 a week, about ₦72,000 in total. On top of rent that is roughly ₦14,400/week in Mushin or ₦18,000/week in Yaba, so clearing it fast is the whole early game.
Which start is better?
Nepo is easier. LAPO produces the better stories and the faster skill growth, so if you like a challenge it is not a punishment. A rich start is comfortable; a hard start is memorable.
Can you change it?
No. The lottery is fixed for the life of the account, which is why players treat it as an identity rather than a setting.
